Fine Arts Department


Art - ext. 13370; Music - ext. 13275

The Art department provides an environment where students are encouraged to attain an open-minded attitude toward different forms of expression. As young artists, they are also taught specific techniques for the development of visual and analytical skills. Students from the art department have achieved local and national recognition; in addition, many graduates pursue successful art careers.   Music Department: A requirement of all major performing organizations is consistent participation in lessons or sectional rehearsals as port of the course content. Lessons will be scheduled on a rotating basis and will meet a minimum of once a week. Membership in these groups requires the recommendations of the instructors.

Bilingual Department:

Students identified as limited English proficient (LEP) are tested and placed in course of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) which will assist them in the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, regardless of their native language. Content-area courses conducted in the native language offer our new and recent arrivals an opportunity to earn credit for courses required for graduation while they are still in the process of acquiring proficiency in English.

The Business Technology Department offers personal, business administration, and computer courses to prepare our students for the world of work and for post-secondary education. The development of keyboarding skills before graduation is strongly recommended for all students. These skills can be developed through Word Processing or Personal Word Processing/Computer Literacy courses.

English Dept. - ext. 13269:

During the four years of high school, student must each four units of credit in English. Al students must satisfactorily complete the following required courses: 
  • English I, stressing language, thinking, reading development skills, and composition; 
  • English II, emphasizing the skills of reading various types of literature, vocabulary study, and writing; 
  • English III, focusing on American cultural traditions through reading, vocabulary study, and writing; and 
  • English IV, concentrating on British and world literature.

    Health education courses are required for graduation. The course develops the concept that a person's health is greatly influenced by the kind of information that person has and the way this information is used in making decisions about the individual's life. Throughout  the course, the student will be expected to demonstrate how effectively he or she uses information and skill in making decisions about critical health topics. Credit earned in Physical Education counts toward honor roll, graduation and rank-in-class. Students must pass 1/2 unit of Health to graduate. They earn one-eighth (1/8) unit for each quarter of health.

    Mathematics Dept. - ext. 13121; 13122 The appropriate placement of students into mathematics courses is essential in meeting the individual needs of our students, and in creating an effective and efficient teaching environment in the department. Therefore, decisions on course  placement should be made on the basis of realistic perceptions and informed judgments. Good decisions will give students the confidence they need to feel successful and will ensure that they have a sound foundation for the future study of mathematics.

    Social Studies Dept. - ext. 13228; 13226 The purpose of the Social Studies curriculum is to provide learning programs to prepare our young people to be humane and rational participants in an ever-changing environment.
