Learn About Our School Our Facility Jefferson Science Magnet is a fully air-conditioned, three floor, brick building in central Norwalk. The school was newly carpeted and painted before the 2002-2003 school year. Our Students Jefferson's dedicated staff educates students from kindergarten to grade five. Among the four hundred fifty students enrolled at Jefferson School, twenty-six languages are spoken. Our Goals In the fall of 2006, we opened as a magnet school with a science focus. Our students are engaged in hands-on studies of the life, physical, and earth sciences. Our goal is to support the social, emotional, and intellectual development of students to enable them to become inquiring, knowledgeable, and compassionate young people who are life long learners. The experiences, instruction, and authentic learning components that Jefferson Science Magnet School provides our students will emphasize the impact of their learning and actions on both the Norwalk community and the larger world around us. Our Progam The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk has joined us in the design and implementation of our program. Students will have numerous in-school and off-site experiences where they will work on instructional problems, collect data, and draw conclusions. These uniquely designed experiences will be the basis of lessons both before and after their off-site learning experiences. The observations and data from these experiences will be real time, hands on, and integrated by the Jefferson staff and program partners into the other core content areas. Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk has also partnered with us and will be delivering both in school and museum experiences for our students in kindergarten through second grade. All kindergarten parents have received family memberships to the museum, and will have several evening events just for them. Jefferson Magnet offers many other innovative programs for children, including:
