Brookside PTO
What is the PTO?
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a non profit organization that is a collective team effort of dues paying members including Brookside parents and teachers. An Executive Board of officers is voted in annually.
This year the PTO plans to Fund:
* enrichment programs (in class and assembly);
* field trips;
* scholarships for Brien McMahon seniors who attended
Brookside school
* the Art Appreciation Program;
* the Yearbook;
* end of the year activities for the 5th Grade;
* a discretionary fund for the Principal;
* materials for the gardens;
* recorders for the current 4th Grade class;
* and much more!
The PTO also organizes many fun events throughout the year like:
* monthly PTO meetings, please check the calendar for
schedule
* Clean & Green;
* the Harvest Patch sale;
* Hispanic Heritage Night;
* the Holiday Shop;
* the Silent Auction;
* treats for our special people on Special Person's Day;
* lunch for Staff Appreciation Day;
* lunch for the kids during Field Day;
* If you have a great idea and would like to organize it, let
us know!
We also strive to provide our children with a sense of community and team work and to demonstrate that, as parents, we can and want to be involved in their education.
The Executive Board
How to become a member of the Executive Board:
A PTO notice goes home towards the end of the school year advising parents that it's time to nominate yourself if you are interested in being on the board for the upcoming school year's board. The letter will also explain the board positions and duties. Parents who are members of the PTO may then submit a letter to the nominating committee stating which position they would be interested in holding. The nominating committee holds a meeting and votes on the candidates then filling the slate of PTO executive board.
Membership
In the beginning of the school year your child will bring home a PTO membership form. At that time, or any other time of the year, you can fill it out and return it to the PTO with your dues to become a member.
There are regular PTO meetings in the evening at Brookside where PTO business is discussed and we have guest speakers or programs for parents and children to enjoy. All meetings are listed in the What's Happening section.
Volunteer
We host many family events such as dances, bingo, bake sales, special person's day etc. (for a full list enter here). Volunteering is a wonderful way for you to connect with fellow parents!
For more information about volunteering at Brookside, please contact the PTO Volunteer Coordinators Dawn Ely and Nadine Tassielo. An informational meeting will also be held at Brookside's Open House Night. Please check backpacks for flyers with more information about how you can be a Brookside Volunteer!
Please note: current volunteers, Mr. Hay must approve all notices before they can be distributed and all text should be sent to Maria Alegria for translation at least a week before it is needed for copying!
Fundraisers
~ Fall Fundraiser Kickoff
This is our first and most important fund raising event since it's the fundraiser that starts us out for the year! Brookside parents/children will receive booklets with goodies galore for sale. On Fundraiser kick-off day a representative will come from the fundraising company and the Brookside students will have an assembly with lots of encouragement, fun and the fundraising will be explained to them on their level. They can see their potential prizes, set goals for themselves and get excited about supporting their PTO. They will receive their order forms, catalogues and bring them home to share their excitement with you that afternoon. In the essence of the safety of your children - Parents please solicit and accompany your child to make these sales from family, co-workers, friends, and neighbors that YOU KNOW! Don't worry Parents you will be provided in that packet with specific instructions and may find yourself excitedly hustling sales trying to help your child win a Sponge Bob Phone or even just those fuzzy little guy things with the sticker feet!
~ Spring Fundraiser
Similar to the Fall Fundraiser with different items for sale. This ensures fund availability for end of year events.
